To achieve
its goal of promoting the development of the whole child, Our Lady
of
Lourdes provides and encourages activities which carry the learning
experience outside the classroom. Students in kindergarten through eighth
grade attend Mass each Thursday morning. Middle school retreats are an
important part
of the religion curriculum. Spelling and geography bees, math
competitions,
Student Council, field trips, and science fairs are other
opportunities for our
students.
Family-oriented
activities such as the Science and Ethnic Food Fair, the
Lourdeswalk
Barbeque and "Mighty Moe" Free-throw Contest, as well
as the Sacramental
Preparation Program help build family togetherness.
Athletic programs
include football, basketball, volleyball, track, and cheerleading.
The academic
program at the middle school level (grades 6, 7, & 8) is
departmentalized
for content areas of Religion, English, Math, Science,
History, and
Literature.
The middle
school students participate in electives. This twice-a-week,
semester long
class allows the students to experience a variety of
topics. Classes have
included: needlecraft, band, drama, Latin, and
Egyptology, to name a few.
Some of the selection changes every semester.
Commitment from
parents is expected to extend beyond payment of
set tuition. Parental
involvement in the school, as well as in the
developmental process, is vital
to each student's educational achievement.
